Patch Publisher’s Notes/Remarks: “A dump of the PS4 version has been used for this patch, which has the same .Movie files as the Steam release. Thus, adding the music back to the endings was straightforward and made the transfer easy. Lastly, restoring the openings involved editing the Steam opening to include the English text and aligning it with the Japanese version. It’s a bit shorter due to the ending with the title card and is slightly out of sync, but it’s barely noticeable.”

• Music Tracks: The original low quality versions have been replaced by soundtrack versions at a 320kb/s bitrate. No OST version exists for the VN’s menu theme, so this has had some minor work done to improve it.

• CG Gallery: The gallery has been updated to include CGs provided in the all ages version (via the included UCG Patch from The Math God).

Download the patch zip file, extract the contents of RPSalvationProject1.07.zip then copy all extracted files to your Steam’s Rewrite+ root directory (which is “…\Steam\steamapps\common\Rewrite+”) and overwrite any files therein when prompted. You may wish to keep a backup of the original files in the event that you want to remove the patch and restore the VN to its original state. Additionally, the Salvation Project patch functions identically when installed on a Linux operating system or Steam Deck.

What Does This Patch Do?

Patch Publisher’s Notes/Remarks: “This patch allows Aokana to run on Linux natively, without any compatibility software like Wine/Proton/etc. This eliminates most of the bugs related to these compatibility solutions and I guess it removes the overhead of such a compatibility layer if this was of any concern to you. The patch works on Windows too, in case you switch frequently between Windows and Linux. The patch will run the original windows code and will not suffer from the differences Linux has.”

Additional Info

The differences between Windows and Linux when playing the VN using the patch stated by the patch publisher are as follows:

• The save thumbnail uses Unity-provided bilinear filtering (like the Switch version), which provides inferior quality compared to Windows’ bicubic filtering.
• Importing a background or saving an image using the Sprite Viewer won’t work because Windows specific dialogs were used and no alternative was coded into this patch (at least for now).
• Letterboxing (black bars on sides/bottom) will be present if you resize the window manually and it doesn’t match the game’s aspect ratio, unlike the Windows version which corrects itself.
• The VN’s sound won’t be paused when minimized, unlike the Windows version.
• Apparently the VN tries to set the cursor on Windows for things like prompts and the gallery. Even with the original Windows version, this behavior was never observed even though it should’ve worked. In any case, this wasn’t ported to Linux.

Patch Installation Guide

Download the zip file that contains the patch. Locate the folder that has the Little Busters! English Edition executable (which should be labelled as “LITBUS_WIN32.exe”). This will be your Steam folder followed by “steamapps\common\Little Busters! English Edition”. From the downloaded zip file, unzip it to extract the D3D11.dll file, then copy that file into the Steam folder that contains the VN’s files.

In the event that you want to uninstall the patch and restore the VN’s original state, simply delete the D3D11.dll file from the “Little Busters! English Edition” folder.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR SYSTEMS EQUIPPED WITH NVIDIA GPUS

This patch doesn’t work on systems using NVIDIA GPUs. Fortunately, there’s a setting in the NVIDIA control panel that makes the patch work. The setting to enable is “Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA)”. This extra step is only required on systems with NVidia GPUs; if your system is using an AMD or Intel GPU, you can safely ignore this.

How to enable MFAA:

1. Right-click on the desktop, select “NVIDIA Control Panel” (for Windows 10 users), or select “Show more options”, then select “NVIDIA Control Panel” (for Windows 11 users)
2. In the left pane, under “3D Settings”, click “Manage 3D Settings” then in the main window, click the “Program Settings” tab
3. Under “1. Select a program to customize:”, click the Add button. In the window that pops up, click “Browse…”
4. Navigate to the “Little Busters! English Edition” Steam folder (the same one that has the patch installed) and double click “LITBUS_WIN32.exe”
5. In the box below “2. Specify the settings for this program:”, find the “Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA)” setting and change the setting to “On”. Then click “Apply”

What does this do and why it’s needed: the actual MFAA feature has no effect on Little Busters VN itself. However, enabling MFAA makes NVIDIA’s driver disable a feature (driver command list support) which is incompatible with the patch.

If you own the Steam version, it’s strongly recommended playing the VN with the patch applied, even if you don’t want nor care about the H-scenes.
