With the start of June and the summer season, there’s a lot of exciting things going on behind the scenes that you might not be aware of. Curious? Let’s jump straight to it!
The Sand in the Box is Still Being Refined… Slowly But Surely.
Regarding the website’s progress to completion, the pace has been slow but consistent. Some pages might appear to not have been worked on nor started for some time (and I don’t blame you for thinking that they’ve been neglected) but in my defense, that’s due to the lack of free time, the fact that I’m the only person working on my own website, and because I’m also working on other projects besides completing this website. Despite all these challenges, the website is coming along quite nicely if I say so myself.
Because MAPP and its subsidiary project pages (Project ISOwned (PISO) and Project Localized Otaku’s Trifecta (PLOT) to be specific) have been well established and refined at this point, I’ve been concentrating my time and effort lately trying to work on and complete the Contribute page. If you haven’t visited that page yet, that is where anyone who’d like to volunteer working on and/or offer contributions to PISO and/or PLOT. If you’re passionate about anime and/or visual novels, a devout supporter of media preservation, and you’d like to make a meaningful impact on things that you, I, and possibly many others like us enjoy, this is your chance to contribute for a great cause.
As of now, all the guilds/clubs and their details have been published and recently planned benefits/perks for being a member of any of the guilds/clubs are also published, with more being considered. In addition and if you don’t want to join a guild/club, there are other ways to contribute to the cause such as making a small donation. However, details regarding where to make donations are still being considered. There are multiple candidates that come to mind such as Patreon, Ko-fi, and others. Making even the smallest of donations are not only greatly appreciated, but they also help maintain the server that hosts this website, help acquire more anime and visual novels for PISO and PLOT respectively, fund my other projects, improve or expand the infrastructure and much more.
Because I’m on my summer vacation and the next semester of my college studies are only a few months away, I hope I’ll be able to put in as much time and effort into this website. Fingers crossed.
Project ISOwned is Bringing in the Heat; a Large AnISO Drop is Coming Soon!
You may have noticed browsing through the Project ISOwned page or catalogue that two new AnISO acquisitions have been made, specifically the 1st season of Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You from Crunchyroll/All the Anime (UK) and Please Teacher! from Nozomi Entertainment (Right Stuf Anime / RiSA; RIP Right Stuf, you’ll be remembered). If you think that’s all, you’re in for a surprise because “the big one” is yet to come! That’s right, a large order of AnISOs for Project ISOwned was recently made over at RACS (my ultimate go-to online store for anime), expecting its arrival sometime next month.
The next AnISO Drop will feature some heavy hitters such as:
- Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out
- Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid
- Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus
- Re:Zero ~Starting Life in Another World~ Season 1 Director’s Cut
- Re:Zero ~Starting Life in Another World~ Season 3
- Date A Live V
- Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian
- Elfen Lied (January 2026 Re-release)
- Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You Season 2
Mr. Otagiri is very excited about this news, albeit for different reasons that he doesn’t want to share. I wonder… (as my otaku senses are tingling.)
Mr. Otagiri Might’ve Found the Toolbox to Rule Them All… or Rather Mod Them All.
While doing some casual browsing for some otaku content over at Internet Archive, Mr. Otagiri stumbled across a very interesting and important piece of the puzzle he believes will greatly benefit the ViNISO Fan Translation (ViNISOFT) Club: Otaku’s Toolbox. This “toolbox” contains a set of programs and files designed for visual novel (VN) data file extraction, hooking translations, and much more.
Here are a few noteworthy assets included in the toolbox:
- Crass: a robust tool for extracting VN data files from a large catalogue of VNs that use proprietary game engines; excellent for extracting VN CGs and music.
- Extractdata: another VN data file extraction tool but has severely limited capabilities compared to Crass.
- NoRegionLoader: a tool that bypasses “Japan Only” system checks or kernel errors in older Japanese-localized (JPL) VNs. It patches .exe files to allow JPL VNs to run on Windows operating systems with a different region set. Modern alternatives to this tool are Locale Emulator and AlphaROMdie, where they’re more compatible with Windows 11.
- AGTH H-Code.txt: a text file that contains a list of H-Codes (or Hook Codes) used with text-hooking software like AGTH (Anime Games Text Hooker) or Textractor. Hook Codes pinpoint where a VN generates text in its memory, allowing AGTH or Textractor to extract the dialogue from the VN for translation.
If you’d like to learn more about the Otaku’s Toolbox, what it includes, or where you can download this, external links are provided below:
A copy of the Otaku’s Toolbox has been saved to the Yggdrasil Server in the event its Internet Archive page and download links become defunct or are taken down. All in all, Mr. Otagiri was glad to have found the Otaku’s Toolbox. He does have some VNs that he’d like to see being modded using the “toolbox”, and looks forward to seeing the ViNISOFT Club formally making its debut in the future. The pressure is on for me to finish the Contribute page indeed.
Yuri! Yuri! Chu! Chu! Preserving the Garden, the Kisses and the Petals.
This last one is a long read but for good reason. At around the same time the Otaku’s Toolbox was discovered, Mr. Otagiri also came across two important listings at Internet Archive for both PISO and PLOT: A Kiss For The Petals – Joined in Love with You OVA and archive files containing the first ten A Kiss For The Petals visual novels (that have been pre-patched with English fan translations) and other related content. As the name obviously implies, these are from A Kiss For The Petals, a popular yuri VN series in the late 2000s to mid-2010s with an anime adaptation (aforementioned above) of the 3rd VN in the series, Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Anata to Koibito Tsunagi (A Kiss For The Petals – Joined In Love With You).
The OVA itself was originally released in 2010, has a runtime of 22 minutes and was English fan-subbed by UFW with the subtitles and staff credits for the fan-sub burned onto the video itself. Meanwhile for the archive files, these contain the following:
- A Kiss For The Petals Volumes 1-10 (listed in order with English fan translation patches already applied; all VNs listed are Japanese-localized copies):
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o (A Kiss for the Petals)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Watashi no Ouji-sama (A Kiss For The Petals – My Dear Prince)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Anata to Koibito Tsunagi (A Kiss For The Petals – Joined In Love With You)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Itoshisa no Photograph (A Kiss For The Petals – Beloved Photograph); sequel to the 2nd entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Anata o Suki na Shiawase (A Kiss For The Petals – The Joy Of Loving You); sequel to the 3rd entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Kuchibiru to Kiss de Tsubuyaite (A Kiss For The Petals – Whisper With A Kiss); sequel to the 1st entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Amakute Hoshikute Torokeru Chuu (A Kiss For The Petals – Sweet Enchanting Kisses)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Tenshi no Hanabira Zome (A Kiss For The Petals – Dyed With An Angel’s Petals)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Amakute Otona no Torokeru Chuu (A Kiss for the Petals – Sweet Grown-up Kisses); sequel to the 7th entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Lily Platinum (A Kiss for the Petals – Lily Platinum); sequel to the 8th entry
- Hanahira! VN (related to the Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Michael no Otome-tachi (A Kiss For The Petals – Maidens of Michael) visual novel, the 11th entry)
- English Fan Translation Patches for A Kiss For The Petals Volumes 12-15 (listed in order; for Japanese-localized copies only):
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Atelier no Koibito-tachi (A Kiss For The Petals – Lovers of the Atelier); sequel to the 11th entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Shirayuki no Kishi (A Kiss For The Petals – Snow White Knight); sequel to the 12th entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Anata ni Chikau Ai (A Kiss For The Petals – My Sworn Love For You); 1st sequel to the 13th entry
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Deatta Koro no Omoide ni (A Kiss For The Petals – Remembering How We Met); 2nd sequel to the 13th entry
- English Fan Translation Patches for A Kiss For The Petals – Angels VNs (listed in order; for Japanese-localized copies only):
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Tenshi no Akogare (A Kiss For The Petals – The Angel’s Longing)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Tenshi-tachi no Harukoi (A Kiss For The Petals – The Angels’ Spring Romance)
- Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Tenshi-tachi no Yakusoku (A Kiss for the Petals – The Angels’ Promise)
- English Fan Translation Patch for Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Yuririn (A Kiss For The Petals – Yuricycle); for Japanese-localized copies only
- A Kiss For The Petals Light Novels and Comiket Boni Materials
You may have noticed earlier that Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Michael no Otome-tachi (A Kiss For The Petals – Maidens of Michael), the 11th entry in the A Kiss For The Petals series isn’t included in the archive file listing. That’s because you can purchase the official English localized/translated (ENL) version of that VN from MangaGamer, either as a digital or physical copy. You can also purchase the official ENL all-ages version of Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Deatta Koro no Omoide ni (A Kiss For The Petals – Remembering How We Met) as a digital copy or you can purchase the physical copy of the former VN which includes this VN, all from the same site. Meanwhile, the 18+ Japanese-localized (JPL) physical copy of the latter VN can only be purchased from Japanese sites.
If you only want English translation patches for the 2nd through 10th VN from the series, Petal’s Garden (the fan translation team for those VNs) ceased their operations and suspended their website (where the patches are hosted) sometime during late 2018 according to this VNDB link though mirror/backup links can be found for some patches. As far as I know, the archive files from Internet Archive are currently the simplest way to get the English fan translation patches already applied on the included VNs, alongside other related content. As for the 1st VN, its English translation patch was done by CountPacula and can still be downloaded, while English translation patches for the remaining VNs listed in the archive are from other patch publishers, with the notable one being St. Michael’s Lobby.
Just like the Otaku’s Toolbox, a copy of the archive files has been saved to the Yggdrasil Server in the event its Internet Archive page and download links become defunct or are taken down. Both the OVA and the VNs will soon be catalogued in PISO and PLOT respectively after verifying the status of all saved contents, albeit with a bootleg warning label appended to their preservation status/flags unless physical copies are acquired for all of them. While I’ll make an attempt on acquiring the physical copies, in case acquisition becomes difficult or impossible, the entries will instead be flagged with a “conditional” green flag using media preservation for justification and have their bootleg warning labels removed.
If you’d like a copy of both the OVA and archive files, to learn more about the VNs themselves or purchase the official ENL copies of some VNs, external links are provided below:
